Snovation North America Inc. announced the launch of its patent-pending snowboard accessory, FRONTS. FRONTS is a novel hands-free, front-foot rotation system for riders that is designed to deliver some overdue rotational movement to an otherwise locked-in front foot. Whether on the cat track, coming out of the backcountry, or grabbing a lift, there are many scenarios in a day of riding that can benefit from a mobility system geared to the moments when a rider is not actually linking turns. For riders of all skill levels, increased mobility is the product's ultimate benefit.

There's nothing natural about a skewed front foot. A front-foot ride angle of 0o - 20o is not optimal for getting around on flat terrain and up the lifts. With FRONTS, a simple back-foot kick releases the "ride-lock" mechanism, activating the device's "fronting" mode, which is designed to deliver the front-foot angle that is needed most according to the task at hand. Although nothing beats a front-foot angle of 90o on a chairlift, 80o is an optimal traverse position for flat areas. The unique "fronting" mode will allow riders to adjust traverse angles with just a twist of the foot in order to accommodate the incline of any mountain terrain that they encounter; for example, steeper inclines such as lift dismount ramps will require less angle. When it's time to carve up the slopes again, a swift twist of the front foot sends the spring-activated kicker back to the "ride-lock" position.

Among the target riders that have understood FRONTS' performance-enhancing benefits are the snowboard patrollers. This group of riders can now pull rescue sleds across traverse areas - an impossible task prior to the introduction of FRONTS. Furthermore, equipped with collapsible poles for tricky rescue situations and the flats, the mobility of a snowboard patroller can now outdo that of his or her colleagues on skis. Snowboard instructors are also going to be a keen user group, as they tend to be among those who suffer the most from knee and ankle pain associated with a high frequency of riding days per season.

The company president & CEO, Ralph Lett, stated "FRONTS responds to an unmet need amongst riders and its benefits over the current locked-in front foot are multiple. Feedback from our product testers has been overwhelmingly positive and we have yet to meet one of them who would board without the device now that they know of its existence."

Engineered of spring and stainless steel, FRONTS is a stand-alone unit that fits snuggly between the front-foot binding and board. FRONTS is designed to fit virtually all standard board and binding systems.

Snovation North America Inc. is the licensed manufacturer and distributor for FRONTS. It is a Canadian-owned company based in Vernon, British Columbia. The initial idea for the product is Lett's. As a Canadian national-level competitor in telemarking, Lett was quickly frustrated by the difficulty related to snowboard mobility when he wasn't actually riding. He designed the first prototype in 1999 and was encouraged by the attention that it attracted on the hill amongst fellow boarders. The company incorporated in December of 2000.
