History in the Making
• Shaun White’s snowboarding career began at the age of four, when he followed older brother, Jesse, onto the slopes.
• Despite suffering from Tetralogy of Fallot, a series of heart malformations which caused him to undergo two surgeries early in his career, White has continued to dominate his competition.
• An X Games medalist every year since 2002, he has seven gold medals to his credit, which is tied with Tanner Hall for the most ever.
• In 2006, he became an Olympic gold medalist as well, winning the halfpipe event with his first run’s score.
• The following year, White was named one of Snowboarder Magazine’s Top 10 Riders of the Year as well
as Transworld Snowboarding’s Rider of the Year. Adding to the year’s accolades, he was twice tapped as
the Most Outstanding Athlete of the Winter X Games in ’07.
• The winner of three ESPY awards – including Best U.S. Olympian and Best Male Action Sports Athlete –
White also holds the distinction of being the first snowboarder to sweep the Grand Prix halfpipe season,
accomplishing the feat in 2007.
• In a year of firsts for White, he also became the first person to win a gold medal at both the Summer and Winter X Games. Proving that he is a threat on the vert ramp as well, White took home the coveted Dew Cup at the end of the 2007 Dew Tour season.
